Aceh Timur, December 20, 2025 — Cendikia Muda Cemerlang (CMC) Indonesia has once again carried out a humanitarian mission to reach flood-affected communities in the remote hinterlands of Simpang Jernih District, Aceh Timur.
Journey of Compassion
The mission required extraordinary effort and involved significant risks. Volunteers traveled three hours by land from Aceh Timur to Aceh Tamiang, followed by two more hours to Dusun Serkil, Batu Bedulang Village, Bandar Pusaka Sub-district. From there, the team continued for another two hours by small fishing boats, navigating strong river currents to reach isolated villages including Pantee Kera, Batu Sumbang, Rantau Panjang, Melidi, Tampor Palo, and Tampur Boor.
Impact of the Floods
The floods have drastically altered daily life:
- Homes damaged and filled with mud
- Public facilities rendered unusable
- Schools left inoperable, halting children’s education
In Pantee Kera Village, displaced children share a simple yet powerful hope: to return to school and continue their education. That hope now depends on collective compassion and action.
Community Resilience
Limited evacuation tents have forced some families to return to damaged homes. With basic tools and limited resources, residents have begun clearing mud and repairing their houses to make them temporarily livable. Despite hardship, solidarity remains strong. Neighbors support one another, sharing what little they have.
Community leaders expressed deep appreciation to CMC Indonesia volunteers for their willingness to undertake a long and dangerous journey to reach communities often left behind.
CMC Indonesia calls on all parties — humanitarian organizations, NGOs, donors, the private sector, and the Aceh Timur District Government — to stand together and take action. Urgent needs include:
- Food assistance
- Transitional shelter support
- School reconstruction
- Sustained humanitarian attention
Every helping hand, no matter how small, carries immense meaning. Together, we can rebuild homes, restore schools, and renew hope. The children of Simpang Jernih are waiting — let us not keep them waiting any longer.
