Psychosocial Support and Humanitarian Assistance for Displaced Children and Mothers in Serbajadi, East Aceh

On 26 January 2026, a psychosocial support activity was carried out for displaced children and mothers in Serbajadi Subdistrict, East Aceh Regency. This activity was the result of a collaboration between the Association of All Kindergarten Principals of East Aceh and CMC Indonesia, with support from Plan International Indonesia Foundation. The implementation of the activity focused on three affected villages—Ujung Karang Village, Sunti Village, and Umah Taring Village—which are currently hosting displaced communities.

In addition to providing psychosocial support, the activity was also accompanied by a humanitarian solidarity action through the distribution of logistical assistance. Kindergarten principals and teachers from across East Aceh independently collected various basic necessities for displaced families. The collected assistance was then brought directly to the activity sites and distributed on-site to affected communities, particularly displaced mothers and children.

The assistance distributed consisted of 1,500 ready-to-eat meal packages and 700 non-food item (NFI) packages. The non-food items included blankets, mosquito nets, and kitchen kits, which are essential for displaced families to meet their daily needs while living in evacuation sites. The distribution process was carried out in an orderly manner and delivered directly to beneficiaries, ensuring that assistance was received quickly and appropriately.

Psychosocial support remained the core component of this activity. Children participated in various child-friendly activities, such as educational games and creative sessions, aimed at restoring their joy, sense of safety, and self-confidence. Meanwhile, displaced mothers were involved in group sessions and emotional support activities designed to strengthen social support and psychological resilience amid displacement conditions.

Through this integrated activity, it is expected that displaced children and mothers will not only receive emotional support but also have their basic needs fulfilled. This initiative also serves as a tangible expression of care and solidarity from kindergarten educators in East Aceh, while strengthening collaboration between the education community, civil society organizations, and humanitarian institutions in supporting the recovery of affected communities in Serbajadi Subdistrict.
