In the Midst of Displacement in Serbajadi, Children Are Still Waiting for Hope

Aceh Timur, December 25, 2025, amid the harsh conditions of displacement, a small spark of hope still shines in the eyes of children and mothers in Umah Taring Village and Sunti Village, Serbajadi Sub-district, Aceh Timur Regency. On December 25, 2025, CMC Indonesia together with Plan International Indonesia came to meet them, bringing not only aid, but also care, protection, and hope.

The team distributed Non-Food Item (NFI) assistance to displaced families and provided psychosocial support to children and adolescents who have been deeply affected by the loss of their homes, schools, and sense of safety. For the children, these support sessions became a space where they could smile again, play, and feel seen and cared for.

The presence of the Executive Director of Plan Indonesia, Ms. Dini Widiastuti, became a source of strength for the women in the displacement sites. With teary eyes, the mothers shared how they are surviving in the shelters, how their children sleep in classrooms, and how they long for life to return to normal.

The Director of CMC Indonesia emphasized that the current displacement site, which is using the facilities of State Elementary School No. 3 Serbajadi, must be relocated immediately, as the school will resume its function in January. Without proper relocation, displaced families risk losing their shelter, and children will once again face uncertainty.

We call on all parties, the government, humanitarian organizations, the private sector, and the wider public to stand together in helping our brothers and sisters in Aceh Timur. They do not only need assistance today, but also sustained support to help them recover and rebuild their lives with dignity.

Together, we can transform displacement into a starting point for recovery. Together, we can keep the hope of Aceh Timur’s children alive.
